Vadim Backman, CLP resident member and Walter Dill Scott Professor of Biomedical Engineering, is featured on the Fall 2018  cover of Northwestern magazine. The story explains Backman’s path-breaking work in chromatin regulation to fight resistance in cancer and Chemotherapy Partial Wave Spectroscopic (PWS) microscopy that has led to the development of low-cost, patient friendly diagnostic tests for lung, colon and other cancers.

“When Vadim started this work in 2003, he was greeted with a lot of skepticism from the cancer research community,” says Hemant Roy ’89 MD, another longtime collaborator. “But Vadim was clearly ahead of his time.”
