VIDEO: Chemistry of Life Processes Institute: Transforming Science. Transforming Life.

“The remarkable thing about CLP is the number of inventions that have come out of this small institute. It’s an incubator that really has no parallel.”

– Teresa Woodruff, Thomas J. Watkins Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Dean, The Graduate School

The Chemistry of Life Processes Institute at Northwestern University is where new cures and biomedical discoveries begin. Our innovative and entrepreneurial faculty work together across disciplines to develop new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat disease. For millions of people around the world living with disease, the Chemistry of Life Processes Institute at Northwestern University offers new hope. From landmark Alzheimer’s studies to new treatments for cancer, Parkinson’s, epilepsy, cardiovascular disease, and addiction, our members are dedicated to advancing human health. In the past decade, CLP has accelerated 75 new drug candidates, medical devices and diagnostic technologies in the development pipeline resulting in 26 new companies that have received $1.5 billion in external investments.

Master molecule maker, Richard Silverman, Patrick G. Ryan/Aon Professor, who created Lyrica™, the most financially successful drug ever to have come from a US academic institution, is one several CLP faculty members featured in the video. It took 16 years before the drug it was available in the US. CLP was formed to accelerate the time it takes for new treatments to make it out of the lab and into the clinics to help millions of people living with disease.
